Max Moreau, a Granadian-Belgian

Hidding (well, not really) in the streets of Albayzín, there is a very special place near the Viewpoint of San Nicolás: the Carmen of Max Moreau.

But who is this man? Max Moreau was born in Belgium, in a city called Soignes. His father was a painter, and it is said that Max loved to watch his father while he painted his works and, as the saying goes... like father, like son. At the age of twelve, little Max demonstrated his talent by painting in oils without having received prior training, a profession to which he dedicated his entire life. His work is characterized by being figurative; He was a virtuos of drawing and color when cubism, expressionism or other abstractions were very fashionable. His inspiration was the Belgian Renaissance painters, and he had great admiration for Velázquez.

Furthermore, this man was a bit of Willy Fog: he lived in Paris, traveled to Marrakech and Tunisia, North America, Vichy, Portugal... always exhibiting his works and taking inspiration from all those places he visited and lived in. He was awarded different awards such as the Médaille de vermil from the Royal Association of Artists Professionnels de Belgique, the Médaille d'or du Conseil Européen d'Art et d'Esthetique ASBL and Fundation Deglumes, among others.

After fifteen years of comings and goings, the Moreaus decide to settle in Granada. They acquired a house,Carmen de los Geranios. There he lived peacefully until, after a long illness, he died on September 7, 1992.

The Carmen de los Geranios can be visited for free; There is a small exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the painter, and you can also walk through the gardens and the three patios that make it up.

Our visit to Citycenter&Albayzín ends at the Viewpoint of San Nicolás, so... you can't miss it!
